Why do people on sport teams get so competitive?

A lot of people get so competitive on sports teams because they like the feeling that they are better than another person on their own team or on another team. The feeling that they can do something better than another makes people feel confident and better about themselves. I've seen it on my team, one girl tries to swim better than another girl and that girl tries to swim better than a different girl. Its always competition. People don't want to look sloth-ish in front of coach, their friends or random strangers. I have also been really competitive with swimming. I want our team to do better than another or i want myself to be better than the girls on the team. Even though competitiveness does help people do better and succeed, it can also bring out the worst in people. i think its okay to be competitive, just not too competitive so that your frightening people or your working yourself too hard.

As part of team 3 i am excited to be blogging this year on the topic of co-existence. On my swim team there seems to be barely any problems with co-existence. But when a girl doesn't pull her weight for the team the team does get mad. Sometimes a girl uses an attitude with the things she says. Lets face it, were all kind of grumpy when we have to get up at 5:30 am to go to swim practice beore school. and everyone understands that. But, when its just too much we usually ignore the girl to let her know that she annoying us. When some one doesn't pull their weight, we tell them to work hard or go home. There isn't usually a lot of arguing on the team because we all know if some one does something wrong we all are mad at her and swimming will just be miserable for that individual. I think we all know that each and everyone of us on the team must be fair and work hard like everyone else. I think the swim team is a good example of co-existence because we all know how to act around each other and we all get along pretty well.
